PROGRAMS

Grades 1-8

WISC is a three year program. Each year the WISC curriculum focuses on specific grades (1-2-3, 4-5, or 6-7-8). In the winter-spring semester students also have the option to take an early childhood curriculum track for several weeks in addition to the early childhood workshops in fall and spring. Students interested in high school teaching may substitute high school teaching courses for some of the WISC summer coursework.

Early Childhood

The early childhood teaching preparation is also a three-year program on a separate track and prepares individuals to become nursery and kindergarten teachers. Students share many classes with the grades students and also have their own specialized classes for early childhood.

Practical Arts Training

The full course to get certified as a practical arts teacher consists of nine individual six-day long intensives (modules) spread out through the year, where the participants learn and practice fiber arts and woodworking/metalworking techniques, and also gain an understanding of why and how these activities are introduced to children.
