Waldorf Essentials
The focus or of this online course is ‘Child and Human Development’.
We will explore the philosophical underpinnings of the Waldorf curriculum through a deep dive into each of the stages of development: early childhood (birth to 7); middle childhood (7 to 14); and adolescence (14 to 21). At each stage, we address the many facets essential for a Waldorf teacher to understand and work effectively with the students in their care. Among other subjects we will explore are Sensory Development, the Foundational Senses in the First Seven Years and more.

Early Childhood Intensive I
This intensive focuses on the earliest years of life (0-3 years old), when growth and development happen at a remarkable pace. Together, we’ll explore the unique needs of the very young child from birth to age three, drawing on developmental insights and hands-on activities that foster healthy growth, secure relationships, and a strong foundation for life.

We will focus on lesson planning and classroom management for Grade 1. Our study will include Study of Man, Chapter I to ground our work in Steiner’s insights on child development.
The afternoon will be led by Jaimen McMillan, who founded the Spacial Dynamics Institute, an international organization that trains movement specialists as Movement Therapists, Movement Educators, and coaches in sport and business, as well as in artistic performance enhancement.

Together we will dive into Theosophy, one of Rudolf Steiner’s essential works, exploring each chapter in depth through presentations, artistic activities, and collaborative group work. This class spans over the course of seven two-hour online sessions throughout the Fall semester and ends with group project presentation in December. We will approach the content of this book through thinking, feeling and willing.

We will developing skills in lesson planning and classroom management for Grade 2, deepening our understanding of rhythm and structure in the classroom. Our study will include Study of Man, Chapter II as a foundation for child development and teaching. We will also practice Eurythmy, explore the artistic possibilities of chalkboard drawing, and cultivate approaches that support both the practical and imaginative life of the Grade 2 child.

This free event offers an opportunity for our Southern California community to come together, connect, and share in the spirit of Waldorf education. Participants will engage in movement with Mashobane Moruthane, take part in role-play exercises that address real-life scenarios facing schools today, and hear an inspiring presentation and sing with Patrice Maynard.

This intensive focuses on children ages 4–6, exploring the power of healthy rhythms in supporting the growth and well-being of nursery and kindergarten children. Through practical insights and experiential activities, we will deepen our understanding of how rhythm nurtures balance, fosters imagination, and creates a secure foundation for learning.

We will focus on lesson planning and classroom management for Grade 3, and meet the unique developmental needs of the eight- and nine-year-old child. Our study will include Study of Man, Chapter III as a foundation for understanding this pivotal stage. We will also engage in Eurythmy and watercolor painting, exploring artistic practices that support imagination, balance, and a living connection to the curriculum.

Our study will include Study of Man, Chapter IV, deepening our understanding of child development at this stage. Artistic work will include Eurythmy, form drawing, and music, providing creative tools to enrich the classroom experience and nurture the whole child.
